When Laser Cleaning May Not Be the Right Method

Laser should be rejected or reconsidered when the roll manufacturer prohibits the proposed process, when the roll cannot be supported or guarded safely, when the contamination response is unknown and no representative test can be approved, when physical wear or cell damage is the real problem, or when another cleaning system provides a better production and cost fit.

Cleaning cannot rebuild worn cell walls, repair chipped ceramic, correct scoring, or restore engraving removed through wear. Those conditions require evaluation by the roll manufacturer or qualified repair provider.

Cleaning may recover effective volume that is restricted by contamination, but it cannot rebuild worn or damaged engraving. A return to the nominal specification should not be promised without suitable measurement and condition evidence.

Both surfaces can be evaluated, but the roll construction, engraving, current condition, contaminant, prior cleaning history, and manufacturer guidance must be reviewed before a method is selected.

On-site work depends on roll access, support and rotation, guarding, laser controls, extraction, production scheduling, and whether the agreed inspection can be performed at the facility.
